Article in the Computer Telephony magazine 5-6/2002 "With joined forces"

13.05.2002

After giving its attention to the VoIP-CAPI in the issue 11-12/2002, the Computer Telephony magazine introduces further Systems based on similar approaches in the current issue. The systems behave to the applications as ISDN or CAPI interfaces but the voice and data transfer is realized in IP based networks.

The article shows the following vendor approaches:

-Solutions based on a proprietary approach like ISDN-over-IP from Inalp.

-Solutions offering a CAPI-interface to the application but having the restrain to be bound to vendor specific hardware components like Agfeo and TheBox.

-The ikon VoIP-CAPI representing the only solution offering a CAPI interface to the application and additionally supporting VoIP messages compliant to H.323 and T.38, without the restraint to require vendor specific hardware. Thus the ikon VoIP-CAPI offers interoperability with H.323 compliant gateways of different vendors.

ikon "realizes the VoIP-CAPI interface for vendors like CAE, Servonic and Ferrari, among others. Fax over IP for Ferrari is one of the first solutions integrating the VoIP-CAPI... In principle the voice and fax transmission is now realized via Internet Protocol according to the H.323 recommendations, instead of just supporting the traditional way via ISDN... faxes from CAPI-based applications are now able to be sent over IP networks directly".
