ikon GmbH based in Ulm, Germany has developed a Communication Tester, which is, in the current version, primarily intended for testing next generation UMTS Node B modules. The test functionality focuses on the transport layer in accordance with the OBSAI architecture.
The Communication Tester is based on a Linux workstation that is equipped with 4 ATM (E1) and 4 Fast Ethernet interfaces in the default configuration. The Test System can be operated via a Graphical User Interface or automatically via the built in Command Line Interface.
The tests cover statically configured connections as well as signalled connections using AAL-2 Signalling (Q.2630) and IP Connection Control Signalling (Q.2631). Besides several signalling tests special emphasis is placed on data tests over ATM AAL0/2/5 and TCP/UDP. Parameters like correct mapping, data integrity, correct sequence and latency are checked here. With the Graphical User Interface various test scenarios may be configured and run automatically.
ikon plans extensions like RNC simulation or the support of ATM OC3/STM-1 and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces in the short term. In addition to that customer specific extension may be integrated at any time.
On a medium term basis ikon will also offer Communications Tester solutions for ISDN and VoIP.
